We believe in a Biblical view of dis/ability, strong relationships, and lasting impact.

Meet Krista

Krista Ewert began writing to make sense of an unexpected journey: becoming the mother of a child with a dis/ability. That writing has grown into a vocation of advocating for people who are often pushed to the margins of society and amplifying their voices.

Krista is the Executive Director of The Lazarus Centre and Chief Operations Officer at Northwest College and Seminary. She has a BA in Theology and an MA in Interdisciplinary Humanities, with a focus on dis/ability language and rhetoric.

She is also the author of This is Ella, a children's book about her daughter that introduces young readers to Down syndrome and to inclusion through friendship.

Krista is married to a musician and is the mother of three children: Jakob, Ella, and Audrey. She is a follower of Jesus Christ, "fumbling daily through faith in pursuit of holiness." Food is her love language; jazz is her soul language, and she is fueled by a passion to see the fullness of the kingdom of God…and coffee…lots of coffee.

Meet Sarah

Sarah is our Associate Director and brings the perfect mix of wit, wisdom and experience.

Growing up with cerebral palsy, Sarah has always wanted to encourage others who feel underestimated and not truly known, whether as a consequence of a disability or some other circumstance. She works as a speech-language pathologist, and believes that the opportunity to express ourselves and be understood - whatever form that may take - is a gift from God for all people.

Sarah has been blessed to be part of several amazing church communities, including St. John's Vancouver Anglican Church, which she has attended for 11 years. Through true friendships built with family in Christ, Sarah continues to learn more about how we can value interdependence and experience Jesus' great compassion in our pain and weakness, without denying that pain. Dogs are guaranteed to bring a smile to her face, and she enjoys sci-fi TV and fantasy games.

Meet Alicine

Alicine is our Resource Manager and first point of contact if you are wondering on how to help your church be a place where persons of all dis/abilities can thrive as disciples and ministers of the gospel.

For over 15 years, she has been part of Southridge Fellowship Baptist Church, where she has had the opportunity to serve, lead, and design ministry experiences for children, youth, and families. Her work has included coordinating children’s ministry, leading inclusion in early learning settings, and serving in youth and camp ministries. These experiences have given her a broad understanding of the different ways people learn, communicate, connect, and participate at various life stages.

Today, she serves as both a Resource Consultant for her church’s dis/ability ministry and as Resource Manager for The Lazarus Centre, a nonprofit parachurch organization committed to equipping local churches with the education, resources, and support they need to become places where people with dis/abilities and their families truly belong and flourish. She is passionate about helping churches move beyond simply welcoming people with dis/abilities to creating communities where everyone is known, valued, included, and able to fully participate in the life of the Church.
